Olivia is recovering well from her G-tube surgery, and Mom and Dad are learning how to care for that new piece of equipmen
Olivia’s PEEP was successfully lowered to 8 (we – humans without BPD – breathe on a PEEP of 5)
Other vent settings are being lowered as tolerated, and we are always paying attention to Olivia’s comfort level
She has been spending lots of time awake, being played with, and being held
Some updated stats for Olivia:
Weight = 3.895 kg, or 8lbs 9oz
Length = 50.5 cm, or 19.7”
Head – 35.5 cm, or 14”
Olivia had her head shape reviewed by the staff at Children’s – Becky and Max noticed it’s not quite symmetrical. The team will be keeping an eye on it and checking again in a month to see if it’s rounding out. Likely, since Olivia loves sucking on her left hand, she’s been laying on her left side so much that her head has had a harder time growing over there. Hopefully repositioning her more on her right side will help correct this.
Hearing – Olivia had her newborn screening this week, and unfortunately failed. She has mild hearing loss in both ears, and fluid in the middle ear. She has a follow-up in a few months, where we are hoping the fluid will have drained and sounds won’t be as muffled for her. She can hear us, which is good.
Olivia may be moving to Franciscan Children’s next week!
Fun fact – Olivia is now entertained when we attach a balloon to her wrist or foot. And it’s entertaining to us to watch her!
Wonderful progress. She is so alert and looks so happy!
