June 12 Update
Hi

Yesterday Olivia’s Omegas walked in the Boston Children’s Hospital Eversource Walk for Kids! Our team raised over $8,700 for Children’s! It was a beautiful day to walk along the Charles. The fund is still accepting donations, should you wish to contribute!

Honored to walk for our Olivia Hope!

  • Olivia has been in Franciscan’s for almost a week now, and has been doing wonderfully!
  • Her weight is now 4.45 kg, or 9 lbs 12 oz!
Post-Walk Family Time!
  • She was transitioned to pressure-based vent settings, which will match the home vent, on Thursday. She had a very successful weekend on those settings, which means that the team is going to try her on the actual home vent today! If she is stable on that for a few days, the equipment can be ordered! It will be 4-6 weeks before it comes in, unfortunately, and our house will be inspected for its electrical capabilities in the meantime. We need to make sure we can support all the equipment we will be going home with.
  • Max and Becky are doing the majority of cares at Franciscan’s. It is good training for when they will be home, with limited nursing intervention.
The Fran can handle more visitors than the NICU because she’s more stable now!

Max and Becky had a team meeting with Olivia’s providers last week, where they discussed the steps to going home. Each of them has a nursing and respiratory checklist, where they need to demonstrate that they can do each of the listed tasks three times (things like giving meds, setting the feeding pump, trach tie changes, trach changes, etc.). Once all items are checked off, they each have to do an in-house 48-hour stay, completely caring for Olivia. They are very excited to do all of these things. At this point in time, it finally feels like it’s up to them to get Olivia home. They have made it somewhat of a competition to see who can get signed off on their list first. (The smart bet is on Becky…)

Nah, the smart bet’s on this little one!
(I realize that doesn’t actually make sense, but I stand by it)
