Holding Mom's finger
(The bad skin color is purely from the camera, not accurately representing Olivia's actual coloring right now)
Olivia’s blood infection has been identified, and the good news is that the meds she had been receiving for a few days will cover this.
Due to her tiny size, the fluid drawn from her lumbar puncture was not enough to test. This means the team cannot definitively say that she does or doesn’t have an infection in her spinal fluid (meningitis), so they are going to take tall precautions and give her the full 21-day course of meds. Unfortunately she can’t restart the steroids until the infection has been cleared.
Weight is up to 3lbs 7oz
Olivia’s lungs are not opened up like the team wants. They continue to take chest X-rays to see how inflated each lung is, and have tried out different settings on her ventilator. They also gave her a dose of an asthma-type medication to see if that might help inflate her.
The team tried to place an arterial line to help make blood draws easier, but were unsuccessful. They plan to try again in a few days.
Olivia had a head X-ray that once again was NORMAL! No issues, no extra fluid around her brain, just normal.
Becky got to go back to the NICU on 1/28!!!! Olivia has been responding to her voice and holding her finger at care times. Becky is also learning how to hook up her feeds under the tutelage of the awesome nurses that want to keep her busy
