More developments from Olivia’s sudden worsening of status
The primary issue at present is that Olivia has an infection in her blood.
When Olivia previously had pneumonia, the antibiotics course significantly reduced the levels of bacteria, but did not completely eliminate them
Olivia has begun a 21-day course of antibiotics
There is concern that this infection likely has spread from her lungs to her blood and spinal fluid (meningitis)
Olivia underwent a lumbar puncture procedure to determine if there is any residual infection in her spinal column or brain.
Good news: This should be treatable with antibiotics!
Bad news: Olivia has weaned off the steroids to help fight the infection, and will likely remain off steroids for most, if not all, of the antibiotic treatment course.
This likely represents a setback in Olivia’s development and return home date
The team continues to administer a range of tests to gather more data and determine how best to manage her situation.
Olivia has slowly, but consistently lowered her Oxygen requirement and has had two consecutive quiet days as she responds to antibiotics.
In other news…
Olivia got to (virtually) meet her cousin Acadia when Auntie Amanda facetimed Auntie Alyssa!
Becky and Max are feeling much better, and Becky is so ready to get back to the NICU on Saturday
