January 1
- Lower oxygen
- Xray showed lungs not well inflated, so pressure on ventilator went up
- Blood gas overnight looked good
- Doing well on new sedative
- Weight is 810 grams
- Second blood transfusion on hold – Olivia seemed to swell a little bit so team did not want to give her more fluids
- Breastmilk is being fortified with extra calories (typical, Becky’s breastmilk is still great and the best thing for Olivia)
- Olivia is receiving 8 mL of breastmilk every 3 hours, which will increase to 9 mL later today
- At this point in time, we are all just watching her grow. Everything else is stable, and unlikely to change for some time.
January 2 10:30 AM
- Heart has a soft moderate murmur; team not worried about it
- Olivia is still a bit swollen with mild/moderate generalized edema
- Blood culture came back negative, so antibiotics were discontinued
- (Not sure if it was mentioned, but they preemptively put her on antibiotics just in case there was an infection. Thankfully, there was not!)
- Weight is 820 grams! (1 lb 13 oz)
- Olivia is still receiving some fluids, but the team plans to transition her entirely to breastmilk by tomorrow! This means that the PICC line will be REMOVED!!!!!
- Her sedation will now be “oral”, meaning through the gavage feeding tube
- The team expects to have to play around with dosage, since it is absorbed differently orally vs. through the blood stream
- We are super excited by this, since it will be one less line in our little girl. If she needs it, she can get IVs inserted for other meds or any future blood transfusion
- Her sedation will now be “oral”, meaning through the gavage feeding tube
Wonderful news!
So happy to hear that that beautiful little girl is graining weight.
