February 6, 2023 So comfy being swaddled with my lid open!
- Olivia weighs 1870 grams – that’s 4lbs 2oz!!! Yes, lots of that is definitely still excess fluid
- Her diuretic is being increased, and her eyes are looking slightly less tree frog-like
- Respiratory
- The team weaned her nitric oxide, but then had to return it to the full 20 ppm. Olivia wasn’t quite ready to get rid of the assistance
- She’s on day 13/21 of her antibiotics
- Becky got to hold Olivia on Feb 3rd and 5th – she’s now held Olivia seven times
- Family meeting – Max & Becky had a meeting with Olivia’s doctors on the 3rd to discuss Olivia’s hospital stay
- Her earliest release date would be her due date, 3/21/23, but that is unlikely with her various setbacks
- She may need to go to a rehabilitation center afterwards, instead of going home
- These centers are for babies not ready to go home yet who have developmental needs like OT, PT, and feeding
- Not sure if she needs this yet
- Her sepsis (blood infection) is treated, but doing she’s still doing the full 21-day treatment
- Next step would either be closing the PDA or getting her back on steroids
- PDA treatment options
- Piccolo procedure – could be problematic if the team is worried about an infection risk
- Alternate option is actual surgery
- Either would take place at Boston Children’s Hospital
- The doctors said that it’s unusual that she can tolerate her feeds so well, but it’s really helping her that she can handle so much breastmilk
- PICC line still in use – she needs to get her off nitric oxide and get a plan for the PDA for this to be removed
- Need access for PDA treatment
- Being used still for antibiotics
In other news…
- Becky got the bill for her BI stay – thank goodness for insurance, which knocked $23,000 off the price of her stay
