I think she loves that octopus even more than I do... Which is a lot!
Today was Olivia’s last day of Cipro, treating the most recent infection. Tomorrow she will get another echo, which will hopefully show her PDA has remained small/closed. If so, she is due to start steroids immediately afterwards! The steroids will target her lung function, hopefully improving them enough to allow the breathing tube to be removed, though it is not guaranteed. The course of steroids will likely be 10-14 days, and Olivia will remain in Children’s at this time.
This week, Olivia was moved back to a high-frequency vent called a “jet” vent which was meant to help with the high levels of CO2 in her blood. Thankfully, she was moved back onto the conventional vent within a day when she showed improvement.
Olivia had another uneventful eye exam
Olivia is up to her highest feeds yet (130ml/kilo of breastmilk). She’s doing great at gaining weight!
Weight = 2440 grams, or 5lbs 6oz
Olivia turned 10 weeks old on Tuesday, adjusted to 37 weeks gestationally

Now Becky and Max have each slept over in the hospital – the first time either of them has spent a night with their daughter.
Becky and Max were able to hold Olivia this week – it had been 8 days since she was last held.
Becky and Max asked for a meeting with Olivia’s doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses. They discussed what Olivia’s road forward might look like, and how long it may take. In short, there are a lot of different ways her treatments could play out, since Olivia is the boss, but they were told to prepare for another three months in the NICU. The family is going to tackle one hurdle at a time and see where things go, as it is difficult to try to look so far ahead.
