December 29 – 31

  • 12/29 NICU – 11:55 AM
    • Follow-up echo to happen to review PDA progress once last dose of Indomethacin are given at 9PM tonight
      •  Depending on how it looks, this could lead to another course of Indomethacin
    • Overnight labs will be drawn to review her hematocrit (amount of blood in her system)
      • Depending on results, she may need a blood transfusion due to less blood (caused by all the blood being drawn that she isn’t able to replenish at this age
    • Auntie Lyssa and Uncle Zach sent us a “heartbeat bear” (actually an adorable fawn) that mimics the muffled sounds Olivia would have heard in utero. We brought this in to live in her isolette. The sound device can sit in there and be turned on for her.
  • 12/30 NICU Rounds – 11:30 AM
    • Weight = 760 grams (up 50)
    • Heart has a soft murmur; docs are not worried about this
    • Doctors reviewed her echo – and thought the PDA looked smaller! They don’t plan to do another course of Indomethacin right now, but will keep an eye on the PDA in the future
    • IV fluid amounts to be adjusted for her new weight
    • Olivia got the chance to sleep on her belly overnight – she likes this position
    • She’s showing a lot of dry skin, so humidity in isolette will be lowered so they can apply some creams to her skin
    • She has been “alert/active/feisty/irritable” at her care times (when the nurses change diapers, check temp and blood pressure, and move her).
      • Becky got to do one of the care times today! That’s two diaper changes for Mom, one for Dad
    • Olivia’s oxygen needs have been increasing a bit, though the doctor said this is normal around the two-week mark. She’s anywhere from 27% – 40%. Hopefully this will decrease as she grows stronger.
    • General goal right now is simply to keep increasing her breastmilk feeds and letting her grow.
    • Hematocrit test was low – which means she will need a blood transfusion. She got one today, and will get another tonight. This requires the placement of an IV because blood can’t be transfused through the PICC line, so now Olivia has a few lines in her legs.
  • 12/31 10AM NICU Visit
    • Olivia looked a little “puffy” compared to yesterday. She was given diuretic medication to help her pee out some of the extra fluid.
    • Otherwise, she looks excellent to the naked eye.
