Meeting with Dr. Mohan regarding Becky

  • Swelling
    • This is normal
    • Can last up to a week
      • Condition is temporary and will go away on its own
    • Treatment: As much movement as can be tolerated with pain. Also patience.
  • Pain
    • Pain is being managed and is normal
  • Blood Pressure
    • This is the most active area of treatment for Becky
    • We are actively watching Becky’s BP and titrating medication appropriately to keep Becky’s BP out of severe ranges
    • This will continue beyond discharge, and will be managed outpatient by HVMA OBGYN
  • Clotting
    • As a result of pre-eclampsia and a c-section, Becky is at higher risk for blood clots
      • This is normal and expected
  • Peripartum Cardiomyopathy
    • We will call this PPCM to save time
    • This is remarkably rare, and very easy to spot
      • Dr. Mohan indicated that on average, they see one patient per year with this condition in Beth Israel
      • This would be accompanied by
        • Severe chest pain
        • Unexpected drops in heart rate
        • Other huge swings in vital signs would be accompanied
    • They are aware that Becky is at risk for this but are continuing to monitor and not concerned at this time about her having this.

Don’t know if it’s important, but I have Factor V Leiden deficiency which is a genetic clotting disorder. I have two bad copies of the gene. Deb has one. I can’t remember if the girls got tested, but I am on Coumadin for life.
