Dec 24 1am – Daddy Daughter Time

  • Max visited the NICU in the middle of the night to spend time with Olivia
  • This was not a visit meant to get clinical updates, just love and emotional time
    • Only clinical update: Olivia’s supplemental oxygen from the ventilator was decreased to 25%
  • Olivia so far is having a “great night” according to the nurses
  • She looks much less red, and more pale (more in line with full-term baby skin)
    • My phone camera is completely incapable of capturing this with the therapy lights, everything just looks blueish.
  • Olivia is starting to get a reputation in the NICU for her “feisty” personality
    • Aside: Olivia’s initials, OHM, were chosen in part to pay homage to the Ohm, which is the international standard unit of electrical resistance – a concept near and dear to Max’s heyday of electrical engineering studies. Olivia tends to resist and fight back when nurses try to treat her, adjust her, or otherwise take her out of her comfort zone, so her personality is true to her initials.
      • We also recognize that the symbolism of her initials is in direct conflict with the symbolism of her first name, which means peace.
      • We also recognize that the symbolism of her initials is in direct conflict with the alternate symbolism of her initials, which can be interpreted to have a calm, zen meaning
      • I guess we’ll let her figure out what her identity really is over time.
  • Olivia was active, with lots of full-range arm motions. She responded well to dad’s comforting touches, but wasn’t shy about telling him that she wanted to keep napping.

I love her initials! I didn’t remember the electrical connection, but I definitely thought of the meditative side! I’ll be keeping her and you two in my thoughts while meditating and breathing. I hope you guys are doing the same and keeping yourselves calm and positive as much as is possible. You got this! ❤️❤️ 🧘‍♂️ Ari (and Danny)

Aw I love all the beautiful thought (and conflicting symbolism) that went into choosing her name.

I actually noticed the OHM initials when I was leaving the hospital one night last week, but didn’t know it was on purpose! I believe I made a “charged” something something pun at the time…
